Working definition of what it means to be literate?

  • Students are empowered to read, write, speak, and publish to and WITH authentic audiences across time and space with others who share their passions and interests
    • Self motivated, self directed learners

  • It means being able to read, write and publish about areas of interest and passion and connect with others with similar interests.
  • Being able to read, write, communicate, and publish to authentic audiences who care.
  • being able to communicate your thoughts and understanding what you read
  • being able evaluate your sources for authenticity, point of views (personal agendas), and true.
  • Making it.
  • The ability to code and decode across different media and within a communities network of information.



It’s not about the thing sitting in front of you. It’s what you’re doing with it. - This talks to why many studies don’t show value of tech. Often educators and adults don’t know how to harness the power of tech for learning.
